Traditional Mi’kmaq Birch Bark Canoe Demonstration

October 3

📣 UPCOMING MI’KMAQ CANOE PROJECT
>>> Learn from craftsman Todd Labrador as he builds a traditional Mi’kmaq canoe

The Town of Bridgewater is excited to share that as part of our community’s 125th anniversary celebrations and in honour of the historic ancestral presence of the Mi’kmaq in the LaHave River Valley and Mi’kmaw History Month, renowned Mi’kmaw craftsman Todd Labrador will be on site at DesBrisay Museum to carry out a traditional building demonstration of a 16-foot birch bark canoe this October.

The entire community is invited to visit DesBrisay Museum and engage with Todd during the build to learn more about this iconic symbol of the Mi’kmaw cultural landscape and his own personal connections to this community.

This project is made possible by a partnership between the Government of Canada, the Town of Bridgewater, and the Labrador Family.

Admission to the DesBrisay Museum is free. We’ll have more details on this truly exciting project as we approach its October 1 start date.
